Sustainability in Australian Drycleaning
The drycleaning industry has not been associated with sustainability until very recently when GreenEarth technology was first introduced into Australia.
There is significant scope for improvement in all aspects of a drycleaning business. Our goal at drygreen is to eventually have no negative impact on the planet by using materials and energy sources from renewable sources, increasing reuse where possible and effective recycling where it is not.
Initially we have focussed on removing any toxic chemicals from our processes. Implementing a GreenEarth process also assists in increasing the life of your clothes and fabrics. It is gentler and extends the life of the fabric. The more we can help reduce the ‘throw away’ the better for everyone.
Garment bags are now available to our customers so that we do not need to use plastic on your clothes. Soon we will be replacing the plastic with a more sustainable product. We have considered biodegradeable products but these are not necessarily a good idea when clothes remain in them for a reasonable period. There are other solutions and at drygreen we expect to be the first in Australia to introduce a superior option soon, so watch this space
We are currently implementing a number of other initiatives to reduce waste, increase reuse and minimise our impact on the environment. It is not just about being ‘green’, it is about making sure that you can provide a great service for the long term without doing harm. In fact we aim to not only reduce our footprint, but also reduce yours by helping you keep your valuable clothes beautifully wearable for a long time to come.
